Conjure oils can be made by placing some herbs in a bottle and saying a few words. But that ain’t how we make them at Conjure Cleaning. In this class, we will cover my methods for crafting oils and much more.
This three-hour intensive will cover the history, science, and spiritual practice of making condition oils within Hoodoo.
We’ll begin by examining the history of spiritual oils in Hoodoo and Rootwork, including the growth of commercial condition oils during the marketer era, spiritual-supply businesses, and mail-order formulas. We’ll also discuss how Hoodoo has been documented, marketed, and sometimes separated from our culture.
From there, we’ll move into the practical science of oil-making. You’ll learn how to select a carrier oil, understand different infusion methods, protect your formulas from contamination and oxidation, and safely work with herbs, roots, minerals, fragrances, and essential oils.
We’ll take a little break, then come back to craft three traditional condition oils under the new moon:
Van Van Oil
Money Oil
Fast Luck Oil
Road Opener Oil (not confirmed yet)
In-person participants will receive the supplies needed during class to formulate their own Van Van, Money, and Fast Luck oils.
You’ll be able to work directly alongside, ask questions throughout the process, and leave with the three oils you created during the intensive.
All class supplies are included with in-person registration.
Virtual participants will join the class live and receive the same historical instruction, formulation guidance, demonstrations, and opportunity to ask questions.
Please note that physical supplies are not included with virtual registration.
This intensive is appropriate for beginners as well as practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of formulation.
No previous oil-making experience is required.
This is not simply a DIY blending class. Our time together will center the history, cultural context, practical knowledge, safety, and spiritual intention that distinguish conjure oils from ordinary scented products.
Space for the in-person class is limited so that each participant can receive guidance during the hands-on portion.
